Growers can use TerrAvion imagery to create management zones that correspond to actual plant growth. In this example, the early season vigor map (left) corresponds closely with the end-of-season yield map (right), while the black outline of the soil-based management zones (right) is only loosely correlated with the yield maps. Vigor-based zone maps are critical to defining meaningful management zones in crops in which vigor is closely correlated with yield, and are especially useful in fields lacking soil maps and/or fields with poor quality yield maps.
Use vigor maps to create management zones and evaluate real time performance of your fields and to inform all management actions. While yield maps are a trusted form of data for end of season crop performance evaluation, they are of limited value as an in-season management tool.
